Welcome Friends of Pueblo Grande Museum
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
Greetings.
It is with great pleasure that I provide the following updates regarding the Friends of Pueblo Grande Museum website. Numerous revisions have been made; many more will follow. These changes are being made to ensure that the text and imagery align with our aim of recognizing Pueblo Grande as a significant Ancestral O’Odham site and acknowledging its ongoing importance to the O’Odham, the direct lineal descendants of its creators.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of our refreshed web presence our new Friends logo. Designed by Akimel O’Odham artist Jacob Butler, a Friends of Pueblo Grande Museum board member. The new logo depicts a traditional quadrilateral design. The design reflects an image unique to the red-on-buff pottery traditioncreated by the Ancestral O’Odham, the original inhabitants of Pueblo Grande and other Vahki (platform mounds) along the Salt and Gila Rivers.
To the artist, this layout represents the four sacred directions. The image of the singer represents the Ancestors. The alternate panels represent the Peoples’ intimate relationship with water and their sophisticated management of this precious resource. Jacob chose this layout and the images because for him “the logo reflects the duality of our Ancestors, we as their descendants and our continued relationship to water. Our Continuum.”
On behalf of the board, I hope that you find our new website to be a valuable and engaging resource. Please visit it frequently to keep up to date on improvements and new offerings. While on the site, I encourage you to become a member of the Friends — or renew your membership — by clicking here.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
John Southard
